Don’t throw it away: A new recipe with older bread Pimp your Muesli

You need:

  • 500 gr. old rye bread or another whole grain bread – whole grains make the sweet bread crumbs extra crisp
  • 80 – 100 gr. brown sugar or sugar alternative
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Optional additional spices as cinnamon or vanilla

Preheat the oven to 190 ° C top and bottom heat (170 ° C with convection). Cut the bread into large cubes. Place in a food processor along with the other ingredients. Chop Chop thoroughly and mix everything together well. Spread ona baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a parchment paper alternative. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, turning the crumbs occasionally with a spoon. Every oven is different, so it is best to keep an eye on the crumbs in the last minutes of the baking time so that they do not get too dark or burn.

Let the finished Bread crumbs cool on the baking sheet and, if necessary, chop them up again with the food processor. Fill into an airtight container for storage, for example an empty screw-top jar. When the breadcrumbs are well dried, they can be kept for up to several weeks. You can easily sprinkle them over normal yogurt or your muesli. They are also ideal as a crispy alternative to biscuit crumbs for a layered dessert.
