Why so many different breads?

There is no other country in the world with as many different kinds of bread than Germany. But what is the reason for this variety of bread especially in Germany?

One of the reasons is the climate, where different grains are growing, like wheat, rye, barley, oats or spelt. We have all the ingredients you need, to develop the perfect bread, from the grains to the fresh water.

But there is also a historical and geographical reason: In the late Middle Ages, Germany was like a patchwork of countless independent cities and duchies. Customs and customs develop within the borders – and so did the different breads.

From area to area, they developed their own recipes, depending on what was growing and available in the area, also for poor people. Bread became a food for everyone, at every time of the day. It was served with soup, with vegetables or simply on its own. Bread was always served and it tasted different from place to place – until today!
